Mobilize Recovery Day of Service: Empowering Communities through Collective Action

Mobilize Recovery Day of Service is an initiative that brings together individuals and organizations across the nation to enact positive change in their communities. Taking place during September and October 2024, this event harnesses the power of people in recovery and their allies to support substance use and mental health recovery efforts.

About Mobilize Recovery

Mobilize Recovery has built a robust national community of individuals affected by substance use and mental health issues. Since 2019, it has been empowering grassroots initiatives by connecting them on a national scale, demonstrating the strength of collective efforts. The focus has always been on fostering community, collaboration, and connection to drive positive change.

What is the Mobilize Recovery Day of Service?

The Day of Service is a series of interconnected public service events held across the country. These events leverage the collective power of people in recovery to create meaningful impacts at the local level. The initiative underscores the idea that recovery is possible and that community support plays a critical role in this process.

Key Elements:

  • Community: Building a supportive network that understands and advocates for recovery.

  • Collaboration: Working with partners to amplify the impact of recovery initiatives.

  • Connection: Creating connections that foster a sense of belonging and support.

Getting Involved:

Mobilize Recovery encourages individuals, businesses, nonprofits, federal agencies, and recovery groups to host events in their local areas. These events can range from small neighborhood clean-ups to large community gatherings. The flexibility allows organizers to tailor activities to their community’s unique needs.

Examples of Day of Service Activities:

  • Resource Drives: Collect food or supplies for local organizations in need.

  • Community Clean-Ups: Organize neighborhood or park clean-up events.

  • Volunteering: Offer time at local shelters, particularly animal shelters, as pets often play a significant role in recovery.

  • School Supply Drives: Support local schools by organizing drives for essential supplies.

  • Physical Activities: Host recovery-oriented walks, yoga classes, or other physical activities to promote wellness.

  • Awareness Campaigns: Conduct events to raise awareness about substance use and mental health recovery.

Impact and Reach:

Since its inception, Mobilize Recovery has successfully mobilized thousands of individuals and organizations, creating a substantial impact. The initiative has fostered a “constituency of consequence” that drives policy change and increases public awareness about recovery.

Statistics Highlighting the Importance of Recovery:

  • 50.2 million American adults consider themselves to be in recovery from substance use and/or mental health issues.

  • 7 out of 10 adults who had a substance use problem view themselves as recovering.

  • 2 out of 3 adults who had a mental health problem consider themselves to be recovering.

  • 400% ROI: Every dollar spent on substance use disorder treatment yields a 400% return on investment in healthcare cost savings.

Join the Movement:

Mobilize Recovery invites everyone to participate in the Day of Service. Whether through hosting an event or joining one, each action contributes to a broader movement of support and recovery.
